Implementing and Sustaining a Change

I have been doing some reading on change and the process you undertake to implement one. I have found that first and foremost we need to be making a change because it is the best interests of the kids and not for the sake of change. I also have read repeatedly how important it is to undertake this process as a team in the school but also to have a critical friend as a support to help the leader through the implementation dip and struggles. Trying to determine who might best fill that role for me.

Interesting reading and looking forward to seeing the articles that are posted for this weeks class.

  1. Change is always difficult. It amazes me. I get so excited about new initiatives. Every time I get to plan a new change I am rewarded with a new burst of energy. I love change but I, like most people, struggle with maintaining my enthusiasm and my focus. Furthermore, when I stop paying attention, I drift back into my natural rhythms. So, it is not surprising that maintaining focus on a change intitiative within an organization is difficult. I am looking forward to the discussion tonight, too. I think it will be a great opportunity to discuss and to try to reach some concensus about how leaders can respond to the challenge.

  2. Change can be rewarding, yet it often comes with some learning bruises along the way. Sometimes I drag my feet when it comes to working on change because it is difficult to venture away from stability. On the other hand, to openly face the unknown can be exhilarating. Without change, I know I wouldn't be here doing these courses. Sometimes I just gotta take that step and not look back. :)
