And the classes begin

Well, I am three days into my two courses and wow do I have a headache. It is amazing how quickly the human brain can loose information it doesn't use and on the flip side how quickly it can resurface from the archives. I spent two days with going over APA formatting again, and I had forgotten how particular it was. I also had forgotten how to write in a scholarly fashion, because it is one of things that once you graduate you don't write that way very often. As I work through it though it is coming back to me.

A student from the cohort made an interesting comment about how we are feeling and how it should remind us that many of our students, and staff feel that way often when new items are put out in classes on a regular basis. Just sitting for that long was a struggle for me, being the kinesthetic person that I am. Adjustments all over.

My Prof, Dr. Kirk assigned us some reflective and difficult self analyzing questions this week. I am asking your help on a couple. She asked about our values, strengths, as well as what makes us unique. I think I am somewhat perceptive, so if you read this and so desire, please post a few traits you see in me. Interested to see if I have closely perceived what you might say. I am not sure if I should be scared or excited to see the responses.

Thanks again for all your help in reading and writing my new blog, which by the way was a new learning experience in itself as I had never made one.

Bye for now.

  1. Thanks for the opportunity to hack and slash away at your personality!LOL. Krista, i believe a strength of yours is your assertiveness. You are not afraid to step up and express your opinion in a (usually) non aggressive manner no matter who it is. You are also a compassionate person who listens well to others. You are passionate about your profession and are willing to go the extra mile when most others won't. The fact you are doing this while on mat leave is testament to your passion. That's the good stuff, now for the bad; your putting is awful! Try to keep your head still and follow through to the hole!Good luck with your masters. I'll be following your blog and will try to inject something useful every now and then.

  2. Going back to school to complete a Master's program when you are a mother of four reflects a pretty strong character. It is also reflective of a person who is interested in learning and wants to keep current. One of the values that you hold that comes out strongly for me is that you value people and are truly interested in people. It is what makes you very successful at what you do and it makes you stand out in the field of education.
Along with valuing people you also seem to have a strong value for who the person is, i.e. you value people for who they are and what they are able to contribute. You combine this trait with your belief in equity and believing that all people should be respected and treated well.
I'll be interested in keeping up with your blog to find out how your courses are going. Don't forget to share some of the great articles you are sure to come across as you go.

  3. Hi Krista,

Before I write at any great length, I am checking to see if this is working and I have done this correctly.

  4. OK,

So now I know I've posted it correctly, here is what I'd like to say.

I do think you are truly very perceptive. You have a great capacity to see things quickly and clearly from a variety of perspectives, analyze them, and act upon the information.

You also have the gift of being willing and able to speak directly to people even when what you have to say is difficult. You are able to do this in a manner that doesn't demean people but rather assumes that, as professionals, they would want no less than to grow and change.

By the way, as we work through Scholarly Writing together and provide feedback for each other, I look forward to your perceptiveness.

  5. Krista,
This is awesome! I'm so excited about the way that you are approaching the task. What a great idea. I can't wait to see how it grows as we progress through the course.

    Well done.
